The morning you step onto the dock at Port Jefferson Harbor, with the ferry terminal off to the east and the Sound opening up in front of you, all you need to do is show up and enjoy yourself.

Everything is included. Rods, tackle, bait, your New York fishing license, and full fish cleaning and filleting at the end of the trip — it's all part of your fare. You don't need to bring a single piece of equipment.
Half-day trips run about four hours. That's a perfect length — long enough to get out on the water, find fish, and have a real experience, short enough to grab lunch in Port Jefferson Village afterward and still make it home for dinner.

Here's exactly what your day looks like, from booking to the drive home with a bag of fresh fillets.
Step 1: Book Your Spot
Walk-ins are welcome, but we strongly recommend reserving your spot ahead of time — especially in June, which is our busiest month of the year. Head to our booking page, check the schedule, and pick your date. Half-day morning trips are the most popular choice for first-timers, and for good reason. Once you book, we'll send you all the directions and logistical details you need.
Step 2: Plan Your Arrival
Give yourself 45 minutes to an hour before departure. That's enough time to park, get comfortable on the boat, and have a quick chat with the crew before we head out. Port Jefferson Village has paid parking at the Town of Brookhaven lot — electronic meters only, so no coins needed. Our best advice: drop your passengers and gear at the dock first, then go park. Step 3: Check In and Get Settled
The crew is at the dock early and genuinely happy to see you. Check in, get your bearings, and let them know it's your first time — they love helping beginners, and they're good at it. They'll show you where to stow your cooler, point you toward the restrooms, and help you find a good spot on the deck. The dock sits right in Port Jefferson Harbor, with the village waterfront behind you and open water ahead. It's a beautiful setting even before we've left the slip.
Step 4: Head Out to the Grounds
Once we're underway, settle in and enjoy the ride. It takes roughly 30 minutes to an hour to reach the fishing grounds on Long Island Sound, and it's a lovely stretch of time. The Sound tends to be calm and smooth, which makes this especially nice if you're not sure how you handle being on the water. Ospreys and sea birds are common company on the way out. The captain and crew will get everything rigged and ready while you take in the scenery.
Step 5: Start Fishing
The mate will bait your hook, show you exactly what to do, and stay close for questions. There's no expectation that you know anything about fishing — that's what we're here for. Porgy bites are quick and unmistakable: a sharp tug, then a solid pull. When it's on, you'll know. At the end of the trip, one of our mates will clean and fillet your catch right at the dock. Weather cancellations are made at the captain's discretion. If we cancel due to conditions, you'll receive a full refund or credit toward a future trip. We want your day on the water to be a great one, and we'll never run a trip that isn't safe and enjoyable.
Can I bring kids?
Absolutely. Porgy fishing is wonderful for kids — the action is frequent, the fish are manageable to reel in, and there's plenty of excitement to keep younger anglers fully engaged. We recommend ages 5 and up, and children through age 12 receive discounted rates.
Can I eat what I catch?
