Long Island fishing changes with the calendar — that’s half the fun. Here’s the typical season for each species we target out of Port Jefferson. Exact dates and limits are set by New York State each year (our crew always fishes to the current DEC saltwater regulations).
| Anumanu | Oge A Na-ahụkarị | Why Anglers Love It |
|---|---|---|
| Fluke (Okpokoro mmiri ozuzo) | May – mid-October | The bread-and-butter summer trip — great for families. |
| Porgy (Scup) | Mee – Disemba | Fast action and easy fishing. The best first-fish there is. |
| Black Sea Bass | Mid-May – December | Hard fighters and great eating, often mixed with porgies. |
| Bass gbawara agbawa | Mid-April – mid-December | The Sound’s iconic game fish. Spring and fall runs. |
| Bluefish | All year (peak summer–fall) | Pound-for-pound the hardest fight in the Sound. |
| Blackfish (Tautog) | April, then mid-October – December | The fall specialty for anglers who love a challenge. |
| Azụ na-adịghị ike | All year (peak late spring) | A beautiful bonus catch on many spring trips. |
Not sure which trip fits? Porgy trips are the easiest for kids and first-timers. Fluke trips reward a little patience with a great dinner. Striped bass and blackfish trips suit anglers who want a real challenge. Whatever the season, rods, bait and tackle are always included — check the akụkọ ịkụ azụ kacha ọhụrụ to see what’s biting this week, or call (631) 928-3926 and we’ll point you to the right day.
