Fishing Reports

Tonight’s porgy trip had a good catch. We got on a patch of cooperative fish, and picked away steadily until the sun got low, and then went home. Beautiful evening with good fishing. Below is George with a nice triple header.

After a lull in the scup action the past few days, they have shifted zones and now set up in the deeper rocky bottom! We found a nice pile to work on last night. Both cq4 and the 2 we there to get in on the action. Drifting and fishing on anchor worked equally well.

High hook was around 30(orl).

Back on the scup!!!!

We recently received this very kind letter. These are the letters that keep you going ! And way to go Capt Neil who makes the rods for us! see below:

Greetings Des,
On behalf of the SFC, I would like to thank you and your crew for another memorable fishing experience. Often times we see such fishing on T V yet never having an opportunity or belief that we can enjoy fishing at its finest. Through the Celtic Quests and your big heart, again thank you.

This annual fishing trip help bring our community together. It allows our youth, religious leaders and our senior citizens an opportunity to share life crimson staining experience, again thank you. Unfortunately, my reel broke on this trip and I was unable to feel the joy of catching more porgies until Mark said, commander I have a special rod and reel for you. Des, he handed me one of the rod and reels you had made specially for the Celtic Quest.

I have used many salt water reels from the Carolinas to Maine, yet the Celtic Quest Rod and Reel was bar none the best I have ever held in my hands. Catching fish was a pleasure and experience.

I would like to know where can I purchase a rod and reel set, the same as the ones you have for the Celtic Quest. Its like I have hooked onto the king of the rod and reels and I just cant get it off my mind. I would be appreciative if you could help me out. Again, on behalf of the Syracuse Fishing club, Thank you.

Sincerely,

Commander, Dwight L. Hicks

The Eastern fluke grounds have seen a new charge of fish, and the past couple of day trips down there have had good fishing. Several fish over five pounds have been caught, and as these thinner fish bulk up quickly on the sand eels, there should be some impressive catches put up in the coming weeks.

Last night's porgy trip had some fast fishing for a light crowd. Giant scup were the dominators of the trip, with very few fish under a pound and a half. There;s still some good scup fishing to be had before they take their mid-summer vacation, so come down and get your thrills. No place better to be when it's ninety degrees than catching fish on the water, with a cool breeze.

Here is a report from today posted by Jeff Rocco:

Fished on Jc 's charter today with 16 other people. We had very good flurries of.fish and picked nice.keepers throughout the day. Fred azaiter won the custom rod that rodwinder very.generously built for.the pool prize with a solid 5.1 lb fluke. He also deckedled a.very.nice striped.bass.that looked to be easily over 20 pounds. I personally had 2 keepers at 19.5 and 20.5 inches. I threw back over 20 maybe 30 short fluke and countless sea robins. There were some other striped bass and blues.landed as.well as some sun.dials too. It was a very good.trip with action throughout the day. Thanks dom and mark for being there whenever you needed.anything. Thanks Capt.Chris for making a nice move and putting us on the fluke and last but not least jay for putting together another great charter.

Today sherwin williams chartered the boat. What a great group of guys!!!! Thanks for coming, hope to see you guys again!!!!

We started the day out scuppin’, we had a good to very good pick of SLOB sized scup. The size was sick today, some real beauties. Put several hundred in the boat.

The charter decided they had had enough so off to the fluke grounds we went. From the first drift on it was bent rods all around the boat. TONS AND TONS of shorts and birds with some really nice keeper sized fish mixed in. Ended up with 25 keeper fluke!!!!

Sorry, I didn’t take any fluke pics because it started raining and I didn’t want to get wet!!!!! I’m soft I know!! HAHA

Great Day!!!!

Also, Capt “cory” of the LORI C was out today as a guest on the charter, was great to spend the day with ya cary!!!!! I believe he won the porgy pool???????

We had a great day with many of the writers from Noreast and other publications on Friday. Nice catch of fluke to start the day. Then tons of Jumbo porgies.

Then off the the Striped Bass grounds for some great drifts on the Flood tide. 20 keeper bass to go with the rest of it!! Love the Triple Change when it all comes together. Thanks to Tony Salerno and others for putting together such a great Group!!

This weekend on the half day schedule has been slower. Lots of boats!! Good fluke action, but the keeper ratio wasnt too great. Porgie fishing yesterday was on the slow side and last night was ok for those who knew had to catch them, but they certainly were a lot more picky then its been. Try again tonight 445!!

Gift Certificates are Available for Fathers Day!! Just visit http://www.CelticQuestFishing.com to order.

Hope to see you soon!

June 10, 2012 (PM trip)

Well the trip started out looking like a bust. First drop nothing. Second drop the fish were stacked up and I thought it was going to be the home run I was look for but we only caught two short scup.At this point I am knocking my head against the wall!! Went back to the same area we made the first drop and finally got a pick going. As the sun set and the boat`s lights flooded the water the bite became much better. We stayed out for about an extra two hours to get the job done!! It was no full boat limit but for most it was a great trip as we captured several hundred scup and one keeper striped bass!!
