Today was the fluke opener! We did find some life on the slopes, but nothing great yet. 15 fluke were landed on the day largest about 4 lbs. A few were in the slot of 17-20 inches. Bucktails had all the action and Joe Deptula was high hook with 5 fluke.
There was a very good showing of bait on the shoals and the terns are just showing up which is a good sign. The fluke we did cut were chock full of sandeels. There have been fluke caught to 8lbs locally within the past week so hopefully this is just the beginning of good days to come!
Finished up the blackfish season yesterday. About 45 tog on the day, 20 keepers. The water temp was actually colder yesterday than when we began the season on April 11! Slow day but Im sure they will bite their faces off this week now that the warm weather has come back and the season is closed!
Sailing everyday for fluke and in a week or so we will start to combo in the porgies!!
