When Striper Trips Sail
Striped bass move through Long Island Sound twice a year, and that is when we run these trips. The first run is late spring. Then the fish come back through as the water cools at the end of summer. Both runs are tide-driven, so we pick the afternoon and evening slots where the current is right — which is why the dates move around instead of sitting on a fixed weekly schedule.

How We Fish for Striped Bass
We fish stripers with diamond jigs. It is a simple way to fish and it works: you drop the jig down to the bottom, then reel it back up through the water while the boat drifts over the fish. When a striper takes it, you will know.
You do not need to know how to do any of this before you come. The jigs are already on the rods when you step aboard, and a mate will stand with you until you have the rhythm of it. Most people on these trips have never jigged before.
If you would rather fish with your own rod, bring it. Otherwise everything is on the boat and included in the fare.

Striper Trip Questions
How much is a striped bass trip?
$85 for adults, $80 for seniors and $75 for children 12 and under. Veterans save another $5. That covers the rod, reel, diamond jigs, bait and your fishing licence. Book your spot here.
How long is the trip?
About four hours on the water, out of Port Jefferson. Please come 45 minutes before sailing time so we can get everyone checked in.
When do striper trips sail?
May and June, then from the end of August through September, set by the tide rather than a fixed weekly slot. The next two are Sunday August 31 at 3:00 PM and Monday September 1 at 3:30 PM.
Do I need a fishing licence?
No. The boat’s licence covers everyone on board, so there is nothing for you to buy or fill in beforehand.
Do I need my own gear?
No. Rods, reels, diamond jigs and bait are all included and set up before you arrive. Bring your own rod if you prefer to fish with it.
Can I keep the striped bass I catch?
Yes, within the New York State size and bag limits for the season. The crew measures every fish, and they will clean your keepers before you go home.
Can beginners come along?
Yes. Most people on a striper trip have never used a diamond jig before. The mates help everyone, and no experience is needed.
What happens if the weather turns?
If it is not safe or the fishing is not going to be worth your money, we cancel and you are not charged. Call the office on the morning of your trip if you are unsure.
